I am looking to buy a cheap van to use for tip trips and diy to save the interior of my car.

Found a van for £500 locally and wondering who would insure it cheaply for personal use (only)

    Any experiences out there?

    I use Aviva very good.

Another thumbs up for Aviva, each of my renewals has been cheaper year on year, they didn’t have a fit about modifications and were cheaper than so-called van specialists. They also have a live webchat which is a hundreds times better than sitting in queue listening to muzak or waiting for a call back as brokers have to go away and call the underwriter about anything. 😀

    Churchill.

Keep in mind that if you want it for tip runs council recycling centres charge vans but not cars (round here anyway)

Before I converted mine MoreThan Van Insurance were by far the cheapest and really good to deal with

In Cheltenham you have not been able to use a van in a recycling centre for 20 odd years you have to go 6 miles out of the town ring them up the day before tell them everything and bring your council tax form and they wonder why there is so much fly tipping yet you can pull a 15ft trailer and know one bats an eye.
Use to be with Churchill just got dearer every year.

Brentacre. They seem to understand that some people want vans for personal use which most insurance companies can’t seem to get their heads around.

I just got a quote from Brentacre and it was £100 more than Adrian Flux are offering. They chap was very apologetic but just said that sometimes they can’t compete.

Just been through this process and conversely Brentacre were 250 quid cheaper for us than Adrian Flux using the same underwriter.

When I got my van five years ago I didn’t have any NCB as I’d had a Ford Capri on classic insurance. Everyone I rang didn’t understand why I thought I needed a van and seemed to think I’d be running some kind of cash in hand removals business with a spot of fly tipping on weekends. People who would insure me quoted well over a grand. Adrian Flux is one of the companies that wouldn’t insure me on a T5 for social use only.

Brentacre is based in Wales and when I first rang I spoke to someone who rides mountain bikes. It was like speaking to a real human for a few minutes. It cost me a fair chunk of cash because of my lack of no claims but it was under a grand and it’s gone down every year since.

Never had any reason to contact them since so it’s all good.

    😆

If Breantacre turned out to be £250 less than Adrian Flux, they’d be paying me 😆

Try getting a quote with your wife as a named driver.
I always do for my works van and it always works out much cheaper.
Mine went from £250 to £175.
