    My Leon TDi 150 is about due for a new timing belt (4 years / 60k miles) – local VAG specialist (not main dealer) are quoting £430 – is this about right? Eek!

    I can’t remember exactly but when I had it done on my old golf with the same engine 3 years ago it was in that region. Not cheap but much cheaper than a failed timing belt……

    With new pump it should be £330+VAT. My bro in law had his done recently (Huddersfield-based VAG specialist). Alot of VW dealerships are offering price matching now as well remember

    sounds expensive, but they’ll often replace the waterpump as well on these, along with the idler/tensioner bearing. A kit of parts is about £65 including belt, tensioner idler and pump from eurocarparts.

    you could ask a few independants how much it would cost to fit that kit. I’ve never paid over 200 for belt and tensioners.

    Cheers guys… just phoned local Skoda dealer & they’ve quoted £600-£650 for MOT, service, timing belt & water pump – compared to non-dealer price of over £700 for that lot!

    Leon timing belt kit £85 delivered

    I wouldn’t attempt it yourself and definitely have the water pump replaced at the same time while the front of the engine is stripped. Gaining access to the belt required removing the bumper, radiator etc on my Audi (same engine as yours). It’s a lot of work and this is why they charge so much. Bad design IMHO, but at least it’s onlt once every 40-60k.

    Stafford Audi used to be ultra competitive on servicing.

    about 450 at my local stealer.
    took it to my friendy garage (just opposite trafford timber for those that are local), very nice chap, did it for about 200.
    if it’s over 3 years old then why bother taking it to a dealer, a mechanic is a mechanic.

    Got my touran done for free 🙂 well it was in the purchase price, but they where going to charge me £250 – £300 for the privaledge. Only thin is its the 2l 16v diesel.

    pump and belt kit is about £150 plus vat, labout should be 3 hours at what ever they charge £250-350 sounds fair

    Skoda main dealer did mine 2 years ago for c6-700 included a 120,000mile service.

    My Passat is coming up to that time too.

    Man under arches = £300
    Skoda dealer = £650
    Need to find a indy VW dealer for a halfway price.

    Last time it was done (4? years ago) cost me about £350

    my man under the arches did £360 for belt, tensioners and water pump including the labour (parts werent expensive, was just a couple of hours jobs – think 3 from memory) for my octavia so your quote is ’bout right

    I used to take my Audi’s to the local Seat dealership – full dealer benefits but half the price. now my A4 is pretty much worthless, it goes to an “under the arches” VAG specialist who is half the price again and seemingly knows everything there is to know about VAG faults!
    think i paid about 200 for a belt, ancillary bearings and water pump @ 120,000 miles which is a decent saving on the 1k it cost at the audi dealer at 60k

    All useful stuff cheers; going with the Skoda dealer so let’s hope they stick to their estimated price.

    Same car (04 reg) done last year for a cost of £420 which included a service and supply and fitting of new air mass meter. Trustworthy local garage (who charged me nothing for investigating a faulty temp. sensor…)
