I’ve bought my eldest a 24″ Cannondale Street which has a Lefty Rigid fork.

In a fit of daddy excitement I bought a lefty wheel off the ‘bay which is a 24h hub and reckoned on finding a 24h rim and building him a new, lighter wheel.

I’ve never owned a ‘dale or had a lefty, so when I unwrapped the wheel I found that the axle it requires is quite big, whereas the one on the bike is quite small – diameter is about as big as your little finger and it’s quite short.

I’ve asked in a shop about it to blank looks. And I’m not having any success with contacting Cannondale or their importers.

What I’m trying to find out is whether it’s possible to buy and fit an “adult” lefty axle (presumably a rigid lefty like off a Bad Boy) to this bike so I can use an adult hub?

Does anybody have any ideas about this – or could anyone with a lefty rigid send me a photo of the axle?

Of course, I might just end up using 24 spokes in a 36 hub, but that would be boring right? ;o)

The rigid lefty from badboys will be way to long for the 24″ wheeled bike unfortunately, they have an axle to crown of about 460-470mm IIRC.

the bearings lefty hubs use are 61902 and 61805, 15mm and 25mm ID respectively.

the lefty bolt is a specific thread too.

I’ve already got the 24″ fork – it’s the axle I’m wondering whether it can be replaced?

Have you tried qwerty cycles?. I believe he is on here too.

Afternoon, rigid adult lefty and suspension lefty take same hub (pre 2014), I have a couple of leftys and one rigid, can send photos and take a few measurements if you need. None of my axles can be removed, they are all moulded into fork leg.

Try phoning Exodus bike works in Exmouth, Devon. They specialise in servicing lefty forks so should be able to help. I’ve not used them myself so don’t blame me if they turn out not to know anything!

Thanks for the tips guys. If the axle isn’t removable from a rigid lefty then that answers the question I think.

Andrew – I’ll ping you a message later on just so I know what they look like.

    Cheers all.
