    protectant (noun):
    a substance that provides protection, e.g. against disease or ultraviolet radiation.
    OED

    Seems legit.

    Seems it is;

    “Protectant – A substance that provides protection”

    Still sounds stupid…

    To be fair I’ve always coated my motorbikes in WD40 and its kept them looking fresh despite riding all year round.

    Just a thought but doesn’t WD stand for water displacement so how will the foam
    bike wash work?

    Always used WD40 on my son’s BMX racer back in the ’80s but the chain was cleaned after every race and left dry until the next race day. Chain and sprocket wear was minimal, it’s always been good stuff.

    road.cc have a review of the WD-40 PTFE lube and they seemed to quite like it.
