Can this be done – does it work okay?

    I have a 1 x 9 set up that I am changing to run 2 x 9 (32T & 40T maybe).

I have a lovely Renthal ring at the moment which for ease I would like to continue using.

Thing is I believe that it is designed for SS use so am guess that getting changing up from it may be a problem?

    Can anyone shed any light?

It's only the bigger chainring that benefits from ramps when shifting – you never see ramps on 22T for instance.

    So you should be OK

Shifting is more clunky and will not always work when under heavy load but it does work ok if you're not a complete numpty 🙂

EDIT – as al pointed out, assuming the 32 is unramped, it'll make little difference.

32 and 40t are pretty close ratios – you'll probably find around 1 extra gear each end (a 32:11 is pretty close to a 40:13 and a 40:34 is a 32:28) – might get the same going 1×10?
