I test drove a new Partner, the VW Caddy is in another league in terms of ride, quality and driving position.
The new Partner felt cheap on the on the inside, the outside and the build of the body was excellent however.
The suspension felt wallowy, the position was poor, looking out to corners wasnt easy, plus the gear stick was about 3 inches too far left and forward. The seats were soft, and the professional version (with air con, bluetooth) has a stupid three seat option. As a passenger you either have the gearstick jabbed in your knee, or you have the door sills rammed into your shoulder. Stupid stupid stupid.
The Caddy has an excellant driving position, the seats are firm and supportive, everything feels well put together and the suspension feels taught.
The 1.6hdi engine on the pug is actually very well refined, pulls well and is fairly quiet.
The 1.6tdi on the caddy is a bit more noisy, but not by much at all, and is far more torquey. It feels more old school, but more powerful.
The pug is wider in the back, but not as long. My Five29 in medium just fits, but i need to fold the Muckynutz fender back.
The Caddy swallows the five29. This is with the bike run with front wheel off, bulkhead to doors.
I bought the Caddy.
