Hey all, I apologise in advance for yet another charity, just giving type thread. But apparently I haven’t been making enough noise so here goes.
You probably don’t know me, I’m not exactly a big hitter on the endurance mountain biking scene. I’ve done some in the past, a 12 solo, team 24 and solo 24 before. My results card reads more like a lottery ticket though and I’ve never finished in a single digit position. But this weekend I’m saying sod-it and I’m graduating up to the big league, I’m having a pop at Dave Buchanan’s Wales Coast 2 Coast route.
I’m doing this supported, I think 200 miles offroad in the (probable) rain will be more than enough for me, let alone going alpine style. It’s deffo not going to be a record attempt anyway. The optimist in me says I can probably squeak in around 24–25 hours, the realist in me think 27–28 hours is more likely.
I’m raising money for the Cots for Tots Appeal which is part of Bristol based charity The Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal. It’s raising money to fund the extension of the premature baby unit at St Michael’s hospital and to ultimately get more premature baby cots/incubators in there!
As I said, I’m far from one of the usual suspects for this sort of thing, and I suspect saying this ride is going to be a bit of a sod is an understatement. The last time I did 100 miles on an MTB it nearly killed me, 200 should be interesting 🙂
If you’d like to find out more I’ve got a blog up here: http://www.garyrides.co.uk
If you want to follow my progress, my crew will hopefully be able to tweet for me: http://www.twitter.com/garylake
And if you’d like to donate (come on the weather forecast looks awful, cheer me up!): http://www.justgiving.com/garyrideswc2c
I’m got some friends coming along to film it too so hopefully there should be a pretty fun film to come out of it afterwards too!
Thanks all!
If that was all a bit boring, here’s a little night riding video I made while testing out my lights, I was a bit late for Midweek mini movies 🙂
