Currently got an X9 Type 2 on my full sus which has a 1×10 set up (34t front, 11-36 rear). It’s a short cage mech and it’s within the capacity rated for it based on the set up.
I’m looking to get a Type 2 on my hard tail also, which has the same 1×10 set up.
I was thinking of moving the short off the full sus and putting it on the hard tail, and then maybe get a medium cage for the full sus. Reason being that I’m finding the (I assume) clutch is making various noises like stretchy spring and knocking noises when the suspension compresses, and can feel that through the pedals. It seems to be something others have noticed though and maybe it’s normal with the Type 2 / clutch mechs, but I’m wondering if the short mech is a bit short for a full sus and I should allow room for the suspension with a medium cage. Though I sized the chain with suspension compressed and shifting is perfectly fine.
Other thought is if I have a lapse in fitness and decide to revert to 2×10, but I’m hoping not to ever go back to a damn front mech again 😀
Thoughts?
Usually I see, 1×10 = short mech. But this is a clutch mech and I think also the short on the Type 2 has a smaller capacity quoted than the regular sram short mech. I think Type 2 short is a 30t capacity, but then (36-11)+(34-34) = 25t which is well within 30t. If that’s how the calculation goes with a single ring up front.
