Has anyone ridden this before? Thinking that it could be good fun, and with spectacular scenery…

Your best bet is to go to Bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk as there was a lengthy thread on this year’s event on there. Also one of the head honchos at Alpkit did it and posted his thoughts on their site. I know this as I built the bike he did it on. Also there’s a similar event in Northern Spain i.e Catalonia in June their site is http://www.cat700.com

Rat Race The Crossing is fully supported – different pan of beans entirely. Tuscany is a long way for 2-3 days riding. The cat700 looks good though.

Tuscany is a long way for 2-3 days riding.

I’ve been looking at it for next year. Flight from Stansted to Pisa (leave bike box in left luggage) then either cycle or train to Massa. Do the ride, train back to Pisa then fly home.

Thinking about driving down, leaving the van near the start then getting the train back and going off to Liguria for a week. If it works well we could do Super Enduro B-road on the way there…

The Tuscan trail is logistically more complicated than the CAT700 as you have to find transport from the finish to the start or vice versa if you do the transfer before you start the event. The CAT700 is a virtually linear route from north to south of Cataluna but the organisers bus you to the start. I happen to live about 20km from the finish and have offered to sort out any uk based riders who can get themselves to Reus/Tarragona airport. For you southerners, Ryan air is now flying to castellon from Bristol and stanstead. There seems to be a fair interest in multi day self supported events in Europe but unlike many of the uk ones, the organisers will charge for taking part.

Im pretty much signing up for the Campania, contacted the organiser and he explained the logistics. Printed off the forms, flights are easy, train start finish. Bike bag can be left at Naples airport

I can send you a gpx of the Torino-Nice route if you wanted to do something independant with easy airport logistics. Approx 450-500 miles depending on which variant sections are used. Aiming to run that as a small group start ride later next year. It’s a mix of classic road cols and open high-altitude tracks.

PB, boxelder, 6th Sept. Thread on bearbones with more details.
We rode there in mid-late July and the weather was typical afternoon haze and thunder build up but nothing dramatic. Tends to get better in southern half that time of year. Sept should be clearer, cooler on s coast.

Entries open in the New Year…
How do people submit the evidence? Or is it just easier to get a SPOT and give the link to that?
