  • Tubeless – wire beaded tyres more difficult to inflate than kevlar?

Either as a generalisation or more specifically Higher Roller 2.1 wire vs kevlar beaded (std tyre not UST).

Kevlar beaded versions went up fine, though the wire beaded version went no where fast. Wish to know if it is a futile effort with wire beaded tyres in general before I buy a load of CO2 canisters.

PS Rims are Stan’s Olympics with proper Stan’s rim strips and track pump.

I have found sometimes that the slightly stiffer wall of the wire beed stops the tyre seating completely all the way around. So as you pump like mad it is always letting air out of a 4″ gap some where else. Have tried a few things to beat it. Try rolling the wheel along the floor sometimes it pushes the bead out on to the rim giving a better initial seal for inflating. Second technique is to go to the local garage and blow the tyre up direct from an air line with a blow gun. This inflates the tyre so fast it blows them onto the rim. Never been beaten by a wire beed yet with that method.

Note you must stop inflating as soon as the tyre beads up onto the rim or it will explode in your face!

    Cheers, some good tips there.
