Was in the HUB in oct hols, heading home from canoeing, and that was the last time. Loved that jarlsberg cheese panini.
Today we did the red in the snow, rain, wind etc.
We went to the cafe, huge Q. So once we were changed, we went back in and had good food. A chap broke the back of a shiny plastic 'christine keeler' chair, bashed his head but seemed ok. So good cafe, watch the chairs !
I can't quite fathom why the outside seating area is on the north side of the new building. It is sheltered from the wind, but also from the sun and it is not a good place to wait with a cuppa whilst keeping an eye out for you mates arriving.

1 - more staff serving ( q was 15 mins ffs )
2 - chalet style seating ( not enough seats )

Was at the Peel cafe for the first time today. Queue was half an hour with a further wait to get cooked food! Not much fun when cold and wet after the ride. Two of our party left after waiting about 15 minutes and a few mumbles were overheard from others. Progress?

Was it busy? Would the hub have served quicker?
I've been to Glentress a few times. For me the place has grown up and developed. I'll be using the new cafe and won't look back. Sorry but it was 'ok' but not amazing.
Saying that I hope the new Hub doesn't become like the shiny CYB cafe. The worse service on the planet bar none.
Was there a 2nd hub at GT which I wasn't aware of?
One which wasn't in a stinking run-down shed and which didn't have grumpy staff slowly serving punters tasteless overpriced food and puddle water coffee?
In cafe today for first time. It was busy so queue was long and TBH I was grumbling a bit to my friends. However soon got over myself and it gave me a chance to peruse the extensive and fairly good value blackboard menu.
There were only 2 staff on in front, but they seemed to have a good system going, were friendly and the queue soon went down.
Maybe could do a little better, but for me it was just the ticket after a few hours on the trails

We were in the new place today, very busy, I think they could have done with more staff on... unless it was a blip with a load of us and others finishing riding at the same time.
The victoria sponge was lovely..
The only thing I miss about the old hub- come on, admit it folks.....was the wooden veranda. It felt 'right'. Take that away and its a very very small wooden shed with minging toilets.

Their proposal should have been better. Sorry.
They're struggling just now... TBH I think it's at least partly because for the first months they hardly had enough custom to be worth opening, so now they're not quite adjusting to the larger numbers. It's got better already but still not sorted.
OTOH- the car park over by the old Hub was locked today so it was total bloomin pandemonium over in the new one. What's that all about? The 2 carparks combined aren't big enough.
Agree re the car parks too Northwind which perhaps goes some way to explaining the long queues! That said, I would have thought they could have predicted they would be busy, reasonable weather forecast combined with popular holiday time? The grub looked good value on the whole and what I had was fine.

Have they got a proper coffee machine in yet? Last time I was there (6 weeks ago roughly) they had one of those waiting room style push button things, minging.
I don't understand how there could possible be any queues. I thought that "everyone" was going to boycott the new cafe and shop

had a lovely post ride vanila.latte and burger at the whistle stop cafe innerleithen. Table srrvice and no waiting. I just have a chip on my shoulder though pwaaaaaa

To 'Big up' some of the smaller local cafes - Whistlestop in Innerleithen and the Caberston Cafe in Walkerburn are both very good if you are heading home in that direction (Or finishing rides on alternative hills :wink:)

God no. Sitting and listening to the hubbub of conversation is much better. The choice of music to suit me might not be to your taste and your music choice would upset Northwind.....
was in the peel yesterday too and it was busy. Had to queue for about 20 minutes to get serverd, simply not enough staff but i'm sure that this will improve.
Also interesting to see that there were quite a few non-bikers in the cafe, can't say I ever noticed that at the hub, seems like the Peel is more inviting to others which can only be a good thing.
PG - you need to get torn into the Pines Tearoom on the way home or a chippy in Peebles.

yep, we noticed that as well, quite smartly dressed too. It may be a day after boxing day thing, but at the hut on the black we met about 15 walkers, can't say I've seen a walker on the black before

I was in the new cafe the snowy weekend before xmas and it was mostly walkers but then it was snowy and very quiet on teh trails.
I thought the coffee was good - its a bean to cup machine, can't complain about that. It is definitely a good bit slower than the hub was though.
They should have put the cafe where the toilets are - those toilets have a great view and a covered verandah area whilst the cafe has no view and a tiny outside bit next to an earth mound. It'll never have the atmosphere of the hub anyway with no music, it reminded me of church a bit actually! Amen.
There's usually been music on when I've been in. Though inoffensive backgroundy stuff. I doubt even the most devout Hub worshippers will miss their choice of tracks too much, no no, no no no no, no no no no, no no there's no limit!

The Hub coffee tasted as though they'd placed a bucket under one of urinals, boiled the contents then added some mud for colour.
