Local bike shops have 2013 models of these bikes on sale and I’ve always fancied a slightly racy XC 29er. I’ll try them both out, but head is saying Trek (I like the Shimano gear and the sale price is cheaper); heart says Whyte (British design and a bit different). Any thoughts?

Your heart will never be happy with a Trek. I’ve owned 2.

I’ve had two as well (Xcalibers, still got the second, and should have kept the first but in a moment of madness I sold it), loved em both, and the Trek has a lifetime warranty,,

I’ve had a C29 Whyte for 15 months and it’s brilliant. Changed the rear mech for a type 2 and ditched the OEM Conti’s; very doubtful you would be disappointed. Great frame and slack enough at the front to give confidence.
