Next on my list of things to sort out before Christmas is travel insurance for the skiiing trip that my wife and I are going on. This has turned into a nightmarish hell of choice and so, once again, I turn to the might STW for advice on what to go for.

So far, my bank is coming in with an offer of 80 odd quid to top up my account benefits to include annual international travel insurance with ski cover, compared to 70 off quid for the single trip ski cover Money Supermarket offered. The cheapest I can find on the same site for annual cover including ski insurance is about 50 quid, but that’s from someone I have never heard of before.

I cannot remember who I went with last time, so I’m open to recommendations.

Check the cover. If you do any off piste skiing often the policy is endorsed that you must go with a guide.

I’ve used snow card & BMC in the past as we did a bit of climbing while out there. Not the cheapest.

We generally use Columbus Direct for ski cover. They have pretty reasonable policies and prices (and allow us to do it all online, including medical conditions).

For the more serious boys holiday where we do a lot more off-piste I use a specialist insurer which I’ll try to find…

    Edit: these guys: https://www.mpibrokers.com/travel-insurance-products/625-ski-snowboard
Think they were recommended by HAT or SCUK. They include off-piste cover with or without a guide.

Yeah, I have seen that endorsement on a lot of the cheaper policies, but since I don’t go off piste, it should not be an issue.

I might try and blag an free upgrade to the account when I get home. It can’t hurt.

I use dogtag. 1 years cover for multiple trips (m.biking, winter sports etc) £100.. that covers you worldwide.

I use Dogtag – but for family cover including skiing and MTB in the Alps.

The boys love wearing the dogtags.

We used insure and go annual trip cover, 3 different levels depending of your level of gnar/rad ….
Unfortunately you don’t get a dogtag to wear 🙁

Insure & Go is cheap and fine for piste skiers. I wouldn’t touch though if you go off piste

Why’s that? I thought they had a ‘sidecountry’ level of cover? Have you had to claim from them before?

There’s off piste and off piste. If it’s powder off the pistes within patrolled boundary of a resort, then generally it’s considered same as on piste. It’s mainly to do with the cost of getting you off the mountain, which is substantially more out of boundary.

European resorts tend to have a lot less in boundary off piste though compared to North America where you can usually roam all over the place.
