I’m planning a trip to bike into Coulra bothy then walk up Ben Alder. I have a choice of my CX bike or a Stumpy FSR. If you have done it, which of those bikes would you choose and why? (Bear in mind, my bike handling skills are poor)

Any bike will do. I towed a trailer full of sleeping bags and climbing gear with a FS in the middle of winter no problem. Hard tail would be fine.

the landy track to the posh house is fine on a tourer then after the little bridge it would be ok on a cross bike.

Remember your winter gear (ice axe, crampons etc). We had fresh snow yesterday.

The mountain bike – it will be just as quick (or quicker) and more comfy.
