Are the 2004-5-6 Celica’s any good as a bike car?

The wife seems to be hogging the CDTi Civic whenever I want to go out with the bike at weekends, and a revvy 1.8 petro sounds just the ticket, but are they easy to get a bike in and out of? What about know issues?

They are a hatch, which is a bonus.

Easy enough, yes, we get 2 bikes into the back of the other half’s. Not masses of space but it’s not bad.

In which case my Wife has one and has had it for 6 years.

No known issues that I’m aware of. The Aircon’ compressor has been replaced twice (once by Toyota and once by me) and I replaced the Coolant Rad’ and the Aircon’ heat-exchanger last Summer. Other than that it’s just been consumables.

She has the 190bhp model and it does go very well but you have to rev’ it to get it to go. With the seats folded down it’s big enough for at least one bike – although I’ve never been allowed to borrow it for a bike trip 😀

Failing the Celica option, I’ll get the wife a micra. That’ll learn her.

Had one for 6 years and would regularly get two bikes in the back with the front wheels off. Just pack carefully if your precious about your bikes.

I’ve had a T Sport for a couple years and it works well as a bike car. Can get a couple bikes in there with the front wheel off quite easily.

Fun to drive, but as you say needs to be revved hard. Mines lowered with trd side skirts.

My missus has the pointy one, I have a GT4 (Currently being converted to a twin-charged setup as the turbo-only got boring!).

I can confirm you can 2 bikes and camping kit in a GT4 too.

My mum’s got one 🙂 Shes in her 70s (dunno how she gets out of those low slung seats, cos I struggle!). Carries her hybrid in the boot quite easily.
I had a drive and it goes round corners well, but not a very sporty engine.
