My fiamma rack on the back of the T4 has taken a bit of a hammering on the last trip (bottoming out over a railway crossing, the aluminium spars have bent a bit and there’s signs of fatigue)

to replace it I need something that can take 4 bikes and ideally might also even have the capacity for a storage box.

It could be tow bar mounted (was planning on fitting a tow bar at some point anyway), it could hang off the tailgate like the fiamma.

Assuming “money no object” for now, what’s the best designs out there? Is it limited to Thule and Fiamma?

We’ve got a Thule Euro Classic G5 909 and it’s superb. It was a warranty replacement due to the previous rack not being welded straight. Easy to fit, we’ve got the rack on the car and 3 biks on in less than 5 minutes, and the tilting feature means it’s easy to open the tailgate.

I’ve been looking at this too. I’m currently using a Thule Euroclassic Pro (http://www.roofbox.co.uk/tu903r.html) but its a bit of a ball ache to attach to the van and load the bikes onto.

A lot of folk rate the Aiston offerings (http://www.aistoncycleracks.co.uk/) and they do 4 bike wheel support models as well as the through the frame type.

Pendle of course, but they get mixed reviews.

I was set on a wheel support model, but I’m seriously considering a through the frame version next for ease of loading and storage.

I’m just not sure of the best way of stopping the bikes thrashing against each other on one.

BTW geoff you can buy these at Decthalon for about £13 each. they are 30mm+ thick foam panels that go between the bikes

these look good, dont just look at the bike rack tho, you can fit bike carriers to a base that will also take a box, winch or all kinds of stuff
