   Morning all,

   A rock in the Quantocks took a bite out of my sidewall. Since the tyres are brand new I'd rather not replace the whole shabang if I can help it, so have you ever successfully fixed such a thing?

   I have tried patching it both sides, but after a few miles the tube starts to squeeze itself out of the hole again. Stitching?? Or should I stop being cheap and just fit a new tyre?

   Layers of duck tape, and then maybe stitch up with dental floss. That's what I've done anyway!

   I've used Park tyre boots several times on smaller tears and they've held up well. That looks a bit too big though...

   Or maybe a zip tie either side of hole to stop it expanding anymore after layers of duck tape on the inside of tyre.

   Stitch with dental floss.

   I have a similar tear that I have repaired in that way and it holding fine. I have also patched the inside with a tubeless patch and put a patch made from an old section of sidewall on the outside.

   And after repairing it, put on the rear - as when it splits (big time) you'll just come to a stop due to a flat tyre, rather than coming to a stop as your face has hit the ground...
