I’m trying to get a friend ( old ) Trek MTB functioning again, but the front derailleur is seized solid. I’ve had it soaking in oil for a day but just can’t seem to get it moving

It’s a top pull type ….. Somewhat vintage !

The down tube is 34.9mm. Does anyone have anything kicking around in their old useless parts boxes ? It would be great to get this bike up and running again. The current derailleur is a Shimano Alivio on a triple chain ring

I have a box full of vintage front mechs inc. top pull, I’ll see if I can find a 34.9 triple tomorrow and post here if I do, cheers

Just pick a newer dual pull mech multi fit mech that suits your bike , number of gear etc

Dual pull mechs will work with either top or bottom pull cables and multi ones have shims to suit all three tube diameters.
