I’m not a big fan of his voice, but he is definitely a great writer. Have a look for Hayes Carll’s version of “I Don’t Want To Grow Up”, it’s a cracking cover.

I’ve been listening to his stuff since 1973 when I saw him at Ronnie Scott’s and I would answer that differently each time I was asked.Every one of his albums stands out in their own right and they all mark an unexpected tangent .I would simply start at what ever you’ve heard so far and depending what rang your bell check out the nearest, there’s an amazing live album from his ” glitter and doom ” tour that highlights his range. Otherwise Mule variations namechecks a lot of his previous styles and departures

Yes – I bloody love the Glitter and Doom live CD. I was there for one of them too!

New album out soon too. Good times.

Congratulations on finally getting there! Tom’s great and gets better with age, unlike so many artists who go off the boil after a few records. “Mule Variations” is probably my fave. That and “Swordfish” 😀

If you’ve never heard “The Piano has been drinking” you’ve missed out.

P.S. For an additional point discuss the question “All those into Swordfish Trombone were johnny-come-lately-trendy fans who jumped on the band-wagon” 😈
