Photo was taken on the 17th September. Might be worth checking the NASA Image Gallery for the ISS.

I dont know if these have been posted lately. They are from NASAs as
astronomical picture of the day APOD.

My girlfriend’s father is a NASA infra red astronomer who works on the SOFIA project, he regularly mails me pics that take your breath away.

That’s one of loads taken over the same few hours. There’s a time lapse here: http://gizmodo.com/5843083/this-incredible-space-aurora-video-just-kills-everything-ive-seen-before

There’s a vid that pops up afterwards which is just as amazing. Another night time flyover, but light show courtesy of city lights and thunderstorms.

Amazing image, would love to take a trip on the ISS and just sit and look out the window.

I’m sure the designer of that wanted to pilot a Tie-fighter.

Hi-res version of the original image available here.

I was up and about and actually saw the southern lights – aurora australis I think is what they are called. Was weird, i was heading out on my bike and rolled round the corner from the house – was still dark just and south was just a greeny glow sort of misty thing, sat and watched for about 10 minutes until the light started. Pretty awesome.

Errm isn’t above in a spacecraft a bad place to be with all that radiation?

Don’t listen to Buzz, he knows nothing – he’s just a toy! 🙂

As long as they keep the windows closed they’ll be ok.

The guy is quite the brightest but down to earth guy I have ever met. He however has breakfast once a week with a guy he thinks is bright. The Nobel Prize winning inventor of the laser.

MC and Dr Ed on Cycle Oregon. He did the same five hundred mile week long ride I did and he’s 76. Legend!

Quite a mixed bag of threads tonight, that’s cheered me up a little. Nothing like a bit of the cosmos to make you feel lucky to be alive 🙂
