Building up a frame for my mate. The frame has a fair bit of overspray in the bb.

Bike shop nearest work quoted £50. Next one up the street quoted £15, saying it should be a 15 min job.

How much is the going rate where you are?

I would have said £10-25 ballpark depending on how much you use them and how much needs to be done. £50 sounds like they cant be bothered or they don’t really know what they are doing so it will take a while.

I think I paid £15 for BB and facing the headset.

I would expect 10-15 for doing a proper frame. Take it with a seat post in.

Out of interest – why’s that then?

It’s a good point; my thinking would be that they’d otherwise put the seat tube in the bike stand clamp and this should eliminate risk of any damage/marking to new frame.

im assuming the second shop was holborn cycles

which is a bike shop the other is a box shifter these days. …….the staff might as well work in argos for all the interest some of them have in cycling.

I’ve always charged £15 for BB facing and £15 for head tube or £25 if both at the same time
