I've just fitted my new SLX disc brakes, just a quick question.

Whats the best procedure for bedding them in?

aahh. just go for a ride.*

if you're being dead anal about it, the theory is you need to get them hot, and under pressure – best way? top of a long tarmac descent, rollo down it while braking gently to get them hot, and then brake hard a few times on the way down.

That said I've never done this, and have had brake pads last ages – even, shock horror SS ones! (apart from an afan trip)

*please don't hold me responsible for complete brake failure. I have absolutely no qualifications in this area and could be talking sh!te.

Excellent advice and an even better disclaimer 😆

Long tarmac descent could be an issue in Mid-Cheshire though 😥

i never bed mine in and again suffer no premature pad wear. i normally go through maybe 1-2 sets per year.

for me, it's a long dry tarmac hill. Not easy to find at the moment though.

you can also do it the harder way if no hills, apply the brake 'slightly' keep pedalling and the friction will in no time harm the disc and pads doing exactly the same but its just harder work

    Works though !

I do it with the bike upside down, spin wheel fast, slam brakes on and repeat several times

seems to have worked for me for the past 5 years

Do Hope still advise lots of mud & water to bed pads in? Always worked for me anyway.
