Following on from this.
Oval.
Anderton Boat Lift.
Crescent Dunes.
Keeping Vegas lit up using the heat of the sun to melt salt. The molten salt is stored and then used to generate electricity via steam turbines at night. You don’t want to be standing in front of the collector at midday.

For I moment I thought they were standing inside a massive cylinder head
Its not well documented in photos on the web (which makes me wonder if I’m the only one who thinks this) but the Pilkington’s factory complex in St Helens has got some fantastic lines and forms going on
The picture doesn’t do it justice but it throws some great shapes on the skyline
I think I need to chat someone up for an artist in residency gig

Well, seeing as it was designed by my Great great grandfather, I’d say that I have a pretty good claim to it too.
Keeping it out of the family, I will go for the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam

Posted 8 years agoThis is the Crossness pumping station in London, stunning Victorian industry. Was lucky enough to have a guided visit with Thames Water, it is trully stunning and was just a sewage pumping station

Posted 8 years agoJust thought of a Mancunian masterpiece. The largest brick build structure in the UK, and one of the largest IN THE WORLD. Was the largest of it’s type when build. I give you the Stockport Viaduct.
Posted 8 years agoAlways know I’m nearly home when I see this from the M1. Tallest building in the UK (yes it is, damn it, Londoners you can shove that pathetic little Shard up yer Tube). 😉

I can’t find a picture that really does it justice but the Blackwater Reservoir Dam above Kinlochleven is pretty impressive. Longest dam in Scotland apparently. Riding up to it feels like approaching the Black Gate of Mordor or something.

Posted 8 years agoAn obvious one – A popular venue for the bikes and a poster child for the beautiful stonework that the old water corporations were for whatever reason compelled to adopt.
I’ll try a bit harder now and come up with something more esoteric.
