how tight should you do the wheel straps? I’m guessing they are there to stop the back / front end lifting up out of the rail and causing the main arm to rotate? So they dont need to be mega tight just snug?

Reason is my new tyres are a bit bulkier and i can get it tight ish on the wheel, but to get to the next ratchet stop requires a lot of effort.

I guess it depends on how far you are going with the bike on the roof, but when i have had this problem i just let a little air out of the tyre and get the clamp good and tight.

I normally have a track pump in the boot of the car so it putting a little air back in the tyre takes seconds.

i’d rather have the bike secure and havvve to take a couple of seconds more before i set off than have the bike come off hte roof.
