I replaced an old 591 last week and the new one came with rubber rim protector thingys on the wheel straps. Seems a bit of a gimmick for ‘normal’ wheels – maybe yes for carbon/aero ones ? Is it just something else to lose or does it serve a purpose ? been using 591’s for 6 yrs plus without this bit and no effects on my rims

Just seem to get in the way for me. Older models didn’t have them, and they just make strapping a mountain bike wheel more difficult.

Retired mine to the Thule parts bin as I switch between mountain and road bikes so regularly. I might consider with bling carbon rims, but not with alloy.
