Bought my 2007 Stumjumper HT Comp errrmmm three years ago and loved it but a few things niggled – appalling rear hub (same as my wife's Rockhopper that cost half the price!), brakes that drove me nuts (Juicy 5s), a slightly naff saddle, hateful tyres and a few other niggles – all minor stuff but all been gradually replaced and upgraded. Now on my third drivetrain and replaced pretty much everything but the stem and frame.
Got a new front wheel (Hope Pro2 on xc717 to match the rear) on Friday so finally removed the last weak link!
Once the frame goes, I'll look for something Ti and I might get the fork custom valved but that's it for now!
Everything is highish end but nowhere near top end – keeps the bike strong and durable but light enough for me. Had an utterly sublime blast on it on Friday – I couldn't ask for more and it hasn't cost me silly money.
Doesn't point down AFAIK – looks flat "in the metal" but I see what you mean.
I knew someone would mention tyre alignment! Fitted by a fully qualified race mechanic who has just got a shed load of work representing SRAM on events such as Wimbleball – he didn't seem to worry about tyre alignment and nor do I… 😉
I'd have thought a mechanic with a background in racing would be even more likely to do it, it makes finding your valve quicker. Mainly aesthetic though I'll admit.
njee – I did ask him about it (if I remember, I usually line them up) but he doesn't generally worry about it. I also have red valve caps so they are easy to find!
Warton – under consideration once both are worn…
