Sending these forks off to a new home tomorrow, but I think there's a crown race still on there, am I right? If so, then I'd best remove it, might be useful somewhere 😆

Yes, any good LBS should have a puller to whip it off if you can't.

So just get the old screwdriver & hammer out?

Judicious and careful use of a flat blade screwdriver and a mallet will have that off in a jiffy… emphasis on careful though!!!

aaarghh… I don't know if ya'll are taking the piss or being serious 😆 So it is a crown race (pretty sure it was on there when I got the forks secondhand…) though thinking about it, these came with a frame that had a King headset, so it's a King crown race?

Wouldn't King crowns be bigger, than say, princess crowns – or are they tiaras?
I think I might have a Shimano tiara race on my road bike??? (I couldn't quite afford the 105 one)

It looks to be a King one- so not so much a race as such, more a seat. And NOT indestructible, in fact it will be easily marked by tool steel thunked by a hammer. If you decide to hit it make sure that you don't do it too hard.

yup I'd use an old chisel if you've got one,
as it will be better at gettin in underneath,
    just tap gently though

I use a small hammer to tap a couple of (sharp) stanley knife blades in each side first, much easier and gentler way to get somthing bigger like a screwdriver in, and by then with most steerers it just pops off. Can't take credit for this; I think I probably heard to do that on here at some point.

Just remove the steerer tube instead. It must be easily replaceable.
