Absolutely used to love 2000 ad, ABC warriors and bad company were my favourites.

I think they ruined star wars for me though, Luke and crew were such beige insipid creations by comparison.

    No, he isn’t.

JD didn’t appear until Prog 2, publication: March 5th, 1977.

    Sorry to be a thrill-sucker.

…and of course there was rogue trooper, who I used to enjoy imagining had gone insane and just believed that his friends minds had been implanted in his kit.

I think I bought the first edition, I can’t really remember I was only 7 at the time and was too young to understand the content, I have a vague memory of being disappointed that it wasn’t like the beano (I think my dad may have also not have approved). It was when I was in my teens that it became staple reading.

DR and Quinch and the futureshocks were fab. Though I wasn’t a big fan of the story at the time, I think the Buttonman would make an excellent TV series or film. I was also an avid reader of Crisis, which in the 1980’s/early 90’s appeared left wing and crazy to me, but in hind sight looked somewhat prophetic!

That reminds me, I have an Anthrax 7″ I Am The Law picture disc somewhere. Probably with a pile of 2000AD’s.

From Action, which was a far superior comic IMHO

Haven’t got the copy of issue one anymore, unfortunately. But am looking at a letter from Tharg that accompanied the original Star Wars soundtrack LP I won in their competition a long time ago.

Had the first couple of hundred progs. They were left in the loft when we moved…

Dredd was always the one, but so much other great stuff.

    Zenith
    Bad Company
    Strontium Dog
    ABC Warriors
    Nemesis

    +1 for Crisis too

I know I mentioned this before, but one of my claims to fame is that, for 8 issues in 1991, I had my own character in 2000AD. Long story but an old mate of mine was in the throes of becoming a comic writer (he’s famous now) and did it for a bit of a laugh.

    This was me:

Always thought Rougue Trooper would make a brilliant film.

    Wasn’t banking on Avatar.

The Future Shock! The Story of 2000AD documentary was a pretty interesting watch. The influence of various writers/artists and the politics of getting involved with the US …

A lot more adult, it’s interesting to see how it’s grown with it’s readership. And Dredd’s still my favourite, although Devlin Waugh, Halo Jones, DR&Quinch and all the rest are great too.

A Zarjaz thread earthlings. The TPO is strong here! 😀

Still have these in my bookshelf. Was originally planned to be 7 chapters I believe!

My Brother in law still buys it every week and I’m always chasing him for old copies.

I think I might be the only person in the world who liked the Stallone Judge Dredd movie….

Or would admit to it 😉

The stallone movie was Ok – a decent enough mish-mash of the best bits – it was just ruined by Stallone being in it.

The Karl Urban Dredd version was just brilliant. I do hope they make a sequel.

I liked Flesh, on account of being right into Dinosaurs when I was 10.
