  • Thinking of fitting an electric panel rad in our conservatory – worth it?

We’ve put a Supalite roof on it so it’s not really a conservatory any more. The roof has lots of insulation. Plus we’re fitting a small multi-fuel stove. So we probably don’t need a bolier-fed radiator. We like the idea of a slimline wall-mounted panel radiator with timer and thermostat. Are they energy efficient? Whenever I think of electric, it’s old 70s storage heaters that everyone wanted to rip out and replace with rads.

    100% efficient.

It is just the cost of energy that is more than gas. Look at your KwH costs of gas and electric.

Do you want to be warm?

Those roof conversion things do not really make it that much warmer.

If you are going electric then focus on IR radiation rather than convective air. The IR will heat you directly so works well if you have a regular seating pattern you can angle it at but you need to find something that looks good. A radiator, despite its name, doesn’t really heat by radiating.

Another solution is the dyson heater, might look a bit more stylish and although an air heater which I just said is bad (in a lossy environment) it is directed air and a benefit is you can use it in summer to cool.
