    Open heart surgery was needed to save a man stabbed in east London after going to buy a car from someone he contacted through the website Gumtree.

    No details of the ad, but I suspect it was suspiciously cheap and the guy was suckered in to turning up with the cash via some story about needing it sold ASAP. This sort of thing has been happening for decades.

    Who actually turns up with the full amount of cash on a first meeting anyway? I never have, if I needed to drive it away same day I'd make sure I did it at bank opening hours.
