The wifey and myself are off to Portsoy NE Scotland for a four night stay in the morning. Booked on a whim a few hours ago.

Already got road cycling and cliff walking/wildlife watching on the agenda, but has anyone got any local knowledge for either outdoors attractions such as good trails, or standard tourist stuff that might be interesting? Example, I like engineering heritage, is there any in the area? Should I take a mountain bike?

    Thanks.

Head along to Pennan and phone someone.

Moray Monsters over near Fochabers for trails.

Lighthouse Museum in Fraserburgh is fascinating.

    Sealife Aquarium in Macduff

For four days I’d leave the mountain bike and just enjoy the break, loads to see and do.

Ta both. Local Hero is one of my favourite films.

We stayed in the Pennan Inn last year. Lovely wee room overlooking the bay and phone box. Super food too.

There’s a nice walk eastwards from the Inn, up the hill and round a headland, takes you to a beach with rock caves and arches.
