Is there a way to highlight all the tunes shown in the window – i.e. you have chosen to show all tracks by an artist in your libary, then how do you click to highlight them all, rather than individually, so you can put them into your play list – i can not be arsed to highlight 5000 songs!

in list view, click and drag the artists name over to the playlist you want, eh voila.

you can do it in grid view as well, just show grid by artist and drag the respective pic over the playlist, easy peasy.

im not sure what you mean, but the way i highlight the lot is hold down either the shift or control key, (i forget which, try em both one at a time), and then click the top song, then the bottom. then they all turn blue. then just drag em all over.

think thats what you mebbes mean anyway.
