Since the other thread about Jeremy Corbyn has gone on for so long I felt it was only fair to start a thread about Theresa May.

So, how do people feel about her?

I’m not a shoe person, so I can’t comment on her footwear.

I’m going to have to judge on her voting record and her stated intention to remove the UK from European (note: not just EU) Human Rights legislation.

I can’t understand why every single political or social movement since 1979 has resulted in an inexorable shift to the right.

Her record as Home Secretary isn’t stellar. Her Immigration controls failed miserably but to be fair her hands were tied. The Police dont like her, I think she was booed whilst giving a speech to them.

    Time will tell.

I think she stands as a comment on how mental our present political system is, that she appears to be the least worst option.

She’s clearly a pretty shrewd and ruthless political operator. In the total absence of a functioning opposition, she’s got free reign to do what she damn well likes. Her appointments so far seem to suggest that she’s going to turn the UK into a ultra-neoliberal theme park.

Something to look forward too eh? 😥

Apparently I’ve been perving over images of the wrong one. It’s obviously the one without the H that I should have been Googling. 🙄

Has she done anything yet? or is she still just waiting for everyone else to **** up, I don’t think her game plan* is going to keep on working now she has won, sooner or later people will notice she isn’t actually doing anything.

Cabinet shuffle was a positive, allowing cameron to reward his cronies obviously a negative, should have carried on as she started.

Dealing with the Home Office/UKVI as I do, I used to think she was just spectacularily incompetent, til I realised that like Hunt she’s embraced deliberate failure. In other words, she wanted the department to achieve certain goals (in this case, to deter legitimate immigrants without actually trying to ban them) and realised that the best way to do that was to make it as dysfunctional as possible. So they’ve managed out competence, they’ve made rules and regulations opaque and contradictory, they’ve made changes without notice… We have a full time person whose job title should be Home Office Damage Migitator, and we lose hundreds of thousands of pounds every year due to what is basically vandalism.

So we have excellent conversations with our contact at the UKVI that go “we can’t advise on this new, poorly worded rule, or tell you whether your interpretation is correct. But we will take action against you if, at a later date, we decide you’re wrong”. This is a service we have to pay for, incidentally. In any sane world, this’d tell you that things are not going well. But to her, that’s a dream. I see no reason to expect better now she’s PM.

She’s playing a blinder internationally. Piss the French off (they were pissed off with us anyway), but really piss the Chinese off. Not to worry though, as she’s appointed a really well respected, heavyweight diplomat as foreign secretary, who’ll smooth it all out no problem….

Met her last year in a travel lounge and she was only with one civil servant type person. Asked me to pass the the milk for coffee and just chatted to me. Seemed quite normal.

I have not been a fan historically – based largely on poor execution of mandate – but have been v surprised at how well she has responded so far. Dangerous for her enemies in her party and in the oppo to underestimate her. So far so good but v early days. Putting the three musketeers in charge of Brexit will either prove to be a masterstroke or a disaster.

But she has a very difficult job at a very difficult time thanks to the stupidity of Brexit. We shall see if it is a poisoined chalice or not in time.

Her bus parking was pretty impressive first time out too.

It will be interesting to see how she copes when/if we get a decent Opposition in place though

Indeed. However my money says if it’s a masterstroke, it was all her doing, and if it’s a disaster… well she put the most senior and committed Brexy boys in charge of Brexit and they couldn’t get a deal for Britain? Who would have been more committed to making it work? Clearly it doesn’t work, or only these bits work etc, tack to a down wind course and high tail it out of there leaving BoJo, Fox and Davis swinging gently in the wind. (Did I mix enough metaphors?)

It is very very far from a masterstroke. Putting the bungling buffoons in charge of the brexit negotiations and foreign relations will damage the country, in doing so she has put her own political avarice above the needs of the country. It is such an obvious political move that everyone can see it and if the press were more balanced they would be ripping her a new arsehole instead of concentrating on the labour sideshow.

The tories are **** up beyond all comprehension and they are being allowed to do so with barely a honest column inch being cast in their direction. Internal political backstabing is being viewed as if they are house of cards characters, as if all the blatant scheming isn’t inflicting damage on the nation. It isn’t just a Westminster bubble it matters to the whole **** country and it is about time they grew up and started looking past their selfish ambitions and sorted out this **** up.

I’ve come across her a little bit professionally. We are a long way apart ideologically but she’s sharp, tough, committed, clear minded and serious. I respect, maybe even fear her a bit. She’ll be different…….

My local MP. She lives locally (unlike many politicians) and has done a lot to represent the community. Seems quite normal and was even in our local supermarket the other day (followed by her close protection officers).

As with many politicians time will tell.

(followed by her close protection officers).

An unavoidable pain/perk of the job, sadly.

Used to live in an area heavily frequented by MPs, ministers et al. Would often find oneself sitting at a table next to a cabinet minister at dinner, for example. Those that had, or had to have(!) CPOs with them were admirably restrained. The CPOs would often be a little way off, very subtle. This applied to those from all parties, I should, add. Apart from John Reid, who would make quite the scene of being important. He used to ask his CPOs to move us from “his” table at the curry house. It was, as the excellent staff at said curry house would politely tell them, our table. 🙂

@CFH love the curry house story

Don’t forget the H in TM .. THM never seen in the same room as TeamHurtMore, makes you think

So far so good. Obvious choice for leader as highly eurosceptic, I was a bit surprised she camoaigned for Remain although she brought as much enthusiasm to that as did Jezza. Good cabinet selections. Got off to a flier at PMQ’s demolished Corbyn. Already showing leadsrship by putting Hinkley on hold. I expect a strong conference from her in September. Autumn budget statement will be interesting and will set the tone for March budget.

Made it clear all EU citizens in UK will be welcome to stay on the basis EUnoffers recipricol rights to Brits (a certainty imho). Her most important test will be when she calls Article 50, part of me thinks she’ll wait to see who is leading France and Germany post their 2017 elections.

How on earth do you think she’ll be able to leave it until 2017 to call Article 50? I don’t doubt she’d like to leave it indefinitely, but that’s not a realistic option.
