Any film that manages to be disturbing and rather boring probably merits an award of some kind.

Crisply-shot portrayal of post-war American bullsh1Te cults and the damaged individuals they prey upon, with a near-deranged (in a very good way, admittedly) performance by Joaquin Phoenix… but still, somehow, not quite as good as it thinks it is.

That said, it should annoy the hell out of Scientologists – and for that reason alone, it deserves to win several Oscars. 😈
