I live near Lincoln and agree Lincs is not the best for technical riding. However,
Greetwell quarry on the eastern outskirts of lincoln has loads of tracks and exposed rocks. not worth a long trip for but good for a local play.
in my view the best access for proper peaks MTB is drive to Langsett on the woodhead pass. that allows a great run across cut gate to the ladybower complex. it only takes 1hr 15 mins from lincoln.
the lincs wolds is good too - just to enjoy being outside.

I'm from around there, and can only echo the general opinion. The road riding however is lovely, nice quiet back lanes and lots of good pubs. If I was forced to move back there, I'd get a CX bike or start building dirt jumps.

I live just north of Lincoln. I have spent some time riding round the wolds starting from Walesby, me and a mate found a couple of loops one around 22 miles and another close to 40 iirc. We usually go the the pines on a wed night and then to either the Peaks or Yorkshire for weekend riding. I did the K100 last Sept and used the 22 mile route round wolds, nothing technical but plenty of ups and downs which was great for training.
My wife has just given birth to our little girl so mtbing is out the window for a while, so i've just bought myself a roadbike and it is enjoyable. The back lanes are quiet and i'm looking forward to hitting the wolds again on it just to get some hills in. For you in Louth you'll be looking at about 3hrs for a trip to Edale, it is good though. The dark Peak is better imo that White Peak, and cutgate is worth it on a summer evening.

There are several nice XC routes you can string together on top of the Lincolnshire Wolds - Swallow/Binbrook areas. Just have a look on an OS map and you will find tons of bridleways/row around there.
A regular route I follow is a 40 miler around the Wolds - I've mapped my last GPS trace of the route on my Everytrail page:
http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1077573It is fairly fast flowing and hardpacked most of the year round and takes 3:00-4:00 hours to do the whole route if you have a Sunday afternoon free or you can cut it into smaller 15-20 mile portions for completing on week nights after work which I do especially around the Binbrook/Wold Newton area (more technical interesting parts!). I find it is best to do anti clockwise, feels much more flowing and faster.
I believe this route is similar the Bicyclemania MTB XC race course that is held each year in this area - so good for training if you are planning on doing the event

I live in North Hykeham, Lincoln and echo what everyone says above!
Not much round here, there is the Pines and couple of rides in the Wolds.
I usually drive over to Sheffied to the Dark Peak - if anyone here from Lincoln fancy's a trip to the Dark Peak and want's to save on fuel then let me know!
I'm 42, of reasonable fitness and ride a Santa Cruz Butcher. Also have a Whyte 901 for local stuff!

Louth Area Mountain Bikers (http://www.louthnet.com/LAMB) have lots of routes in the county, and as well as the one posted above if you search for LAMB on everytrail you can find GPS trails for most of them as well.

Hello guys, I am a new MTB rider and looking for some simple trails to have a go at around lincoln, can anyone recommend anything for the new rider looking to cut their teeth on?
The quarry looks like great fun but think it might be a steep learning curve, also I currently only have a cheap £100 front sus bike that I have bought just to throw about and see if I enjoy it and if I do then will soon be investing £3-400 on a solid bike

hello einholt. the water rail way out to bardney is about a simple as it gets and there is a cafe there too!.
I would recomend Greetwell quarry though if you want to get a little sense of off road mountain biking. have a look at the bing 3d sat maps. copy all of the link below into your browser.

there are several entry points behind Wickes, bottom of the dip just east of wickes, carlton centre, small by road between south greetwell and bunkers hill.

I have to echo what you've all said about Lincolnshire. Its a bit poor for the mountain biker. Pines is a good crack but its not really changed in the 16+yrs i've been going there. I've a few rides i've put together which are good for a sunday morning blast but nothing special. You really have to travel to get some good riding in. Pines has a well organised club which you can find on facebook. I use Arrow Cycles in Lincoln and Paul (the owner) has sporadic rides out. If anyone fancies a regular ride lets post here? I'm in the Bailgate and run a bar on the High St so can put some beers together no worries

There's quite a few of us from RAF Waddington who MTB so we are always up for a ride out

...and a few more from Scampton
We went on an FD day to Cannok last week. Seven of us, plus bikes, in the back of a half-and-half transit. When we got there, i was quite ammused to find two more identical half-and-halfs on an FD day from Conningsby! Not a bad way to spend a work day.

Are you boys ground crew?
Tell you what... I run Dogma on the high street! Lets have some beers and sort a ride out. Any of you formerly based at Coltishall? Had a load of mates based there a one point.
Could sort a weekly ride?Posted 6 months ago # -
Ex Coltishall ground crew, now based at Waddo here, haha small world. Also do a few TCL's for Waddo through the year at Sherwood and always spotting other MT wagons about haha - not a bad way to spend the working day at all Duffer

Only slightly resurrecting this thread...
If there are any RAF types around, can you guys email me using the address in my profile, i'll give you my work email if you do.
Would like to get a list together of riders from RAF Lincolnshire so we can share exped spaces and FD days, or just meet up for evening and weekend rides.
On another note, myself and another chap have just moved down from Kinloss and are planning to do the MBF in Wales. Might have a couple of seats free in the half/half if anyone else can spare a week off.
