    This is going to be the first film ever where the definitive best director’s cut is 1/3d the length of the original version…

    I could appreciate it if they intertwined the silmarilion stories, but can’t recall legolas pre LOTD in any of the books.

    LOTR’s influence on my life has been massive, I first read it when I was 11 and must have re-read it at least 10 times since. I read The Hobbit and The Silmarillion too (but found it hard going (at the time)).

    Despite misgivings I watched the LOTR films. Loved them. Absolutely. Misgivings unfounded.

    Be-bought The Hobbit in book form. Great. Bought the film on dvd. Completely underwhelmed. Three times I’ve put it on to watch and three times I’ve fallen asleep. What happened?
