A sort of follow on from the Nirvana thread.

My sister and her now husband took me with them to see Bon Jovi in Cardiff when i was 15. He wanted to go as Van Halen were supporting them, obviously my sister wanted to see the Jovi.

Really good day out and the gig was pretty damn good. Enjoyed both sets.

aside from many pub bands, the first “proper” gig I went to was Donington in 1990. So the first band was Thunder (followed by The Quireboys, Poison, Serenity and Whitsnake). Baptism of fire.

Not sure as it’s so long ago,
But first I still remember was Nils Lofgren at Leeds University

Support act was way way better to the extent that when Lofgren had finished, folks were chanting the supports acts name ….

Still haven’t seen them headline although I did catch them supporting at Knebworth.

I really wish Tom Petty would tour the UK more, can’t make the only date this year

    ….

And through the power of google I can now say it was 21 May 1977 …..

First live artist I saw was Charlie Pride. I was too young to protest! First gig I went of my own volition was the Happy Mondays, Pills n thrills tour.

Another SLFer. Glasgow Apollo, 1982. Just turned 13 and in the best punk tradition, mum and dad dropped me and my pal off. Fantastic night, still remember some big guy with a Mohican kicking lumps out of the building.

First was Steeleye Span at the Lacock Folk Festival in 1971, they played Chippenham Folk Festival in 2011, to celebrate the fact, and I finally got the chance to meet Maddy Prior and get my vinyl copy of ‘Below The Salt’ signed.
Next gig was ELP on the Trilogy Tour, at St David’s Hall in Cardiff in 1972.

The Stranglers last year at the Silverstone classic, 1st time seeing a band live at 36 years old and that was only because I was there with work 😆

That made me feel like I’ve been missing out all my life though and wish I’d gone to see some live music years ago. Also saw Reef & The Boomtown rats that weekend so not a bad event to pop my live music cherry 8)
