If anyone fondly recalls the film, as I do, they may remember a scene in which the character John Bender is using the crawl space above a ceiling to get from one location to another in the school. As he does so, he tells himself a joke involving a blonde walking into a bar with a six-foot sausage (salami, perhaps?).
The rest is hazy, but crucially, as he gets to the punchline, the ceiling collapses and he falls to the floor.
The character is okay, but we never get to hear the end of the joke.

'Tis a long shot, I know, but would anyone know how that joke ends?

I suppose I could use my imagination, but I reckon it wouldn't be so funny. In fact, it would probably be a whole different kinda film, if you know what I mean….hurgh, hurgh.

    Thanks for any collective knowledge

IIRC he doesn't get to the punchline, as he falls through the ceiling just as he reaches it.

Loooong time since I've seen the film though

    You never were!
    Really?

It's on imdb? under Breakfast Club, I presume?

    "I forgot my pencil." ??

Now that John hughes is no longer with us, we can't ask at source.
Anyone know how I could contact the actor Judd Nelson? It was his role. Maybe he knows, as I just don't get "I forgot my pencil".

having seen the imdb page (cheers Rowley), I reckon I could be funnier now.
    How about you?

    Fancy a joke-off?

In fact, let's get the sharpest, most humourous minds in the land – those of STW users – and see who can come up with the best alternative punchline to that joke.

    "See you next Saturday."

"Forgot my pencil" was his response to the group's questioning looks as he walked over after crashing through the ceiling, not the jokes punchline.

I remember the joke went as far as –
"..the barman says; I guess you won't be needing a drink, to which the blonde replies…" (falls through ceiling)

I'm sure the effect was meant to be that Bender was making it up as he crawled along..?

    damn, Rob. You're so right.

He did say that as he walked back to the group.

Back to square 1 on the punchline front.

It has been too long since I saw the film. It's in my local Fopp for £3 on DVD.
That's my Friday night planned then.

Still open to STW contributions on what they think would be funniest
