    Utterly fabulous news.

The tide is changing, lets hope the whaling daily becomes a top shelf racist mag you can only buy in specialist shops.

    😆

It is a good sign that Virgin Trains customer service are confident that all their train toilets are actually amply stocked with real shit-roll. Bravo!

There does seem to be quite a few people confused about what “banned”, “censorship” and the concept of free speech actually mean.

Interesting bit on PM about it.

    Fair move, imo.

Back in summer I was in Barts hospital due to my mum having leukemi/chemo. Sat there with the nurses flicking through the papers and we were commenting on the DM. I had a bit of a rant about the anti migrant, NHS vibe and then one of the nurses agreed, got up and went around the fifth floor and collected all of the DMs and threw them in the bin. 😆

I understand the hate for the mail but lets not let the express off the hook.

    People read the mail????

    Won’t stop the on-liners I guess

I remember when my boss used to come and visit me when I was abroad he would offer me a copy of the Daily Mail he had picked up on the plane. I would enthusiastically take it from him and then even more enthusiastically chuck it in the bin 😆

If only BA had stopped doing this 10 years ago it might have reduced the amount of small-minded cr@p I would have to listen to 🙄

    Cheers, Rich

Hopefully Virgin west coast will now be charging a huge supplement to people on their trains caught reading the daily mail

The Mail is the second largest paid for paper in the UK?

    WTAF??

I wouldn’t wipe my rear with it.

I hope they lose more and more advertisers and points of sale. 😀

See, you lot have got me conditioned.
I Googled something today & The Maily Dail came up. As soon as I realised I was like, ‘whoaa no, you can’t read that!’
But seeing as I don’t actually read it anyway, & never have, I have no idea why I thought that. Must be you lot.

I disagree, insofar as the Mail has been more successful at insinuating itself into mainstream, middle class life. Consequently, it is better at normalising its venom.

Yes a lot of people do.It really is a popular paper.
As is their website although thats a bit more complex since the sidebar of shame makes it a competitor for the gossip mags and often seems in contradiction of the values claimed by the paper version.

As for the express. Lot less people read it and its more of a joke with its EU killed Diana (or whichever group is the bogeyman of the minute).
Plus its in the processing of being sold to the mirror group which could be interesting.

Yup, sweet irony. Mirror group is still crap but nothing on the level of the Express.

Can vouch for people reading it, few in my work. Odd thing is its the people you honestly wouldn’t expect.

There must have been one word they were dying to use in that head line, “white” but decided not to.

Nothing about merit here, just about colour and gender.

    Obnoxious paper.

The Mirror gets (excuse me) a bad press, but it’s largely undeserved these days from the headlines I’ve read. They’re probably the least tabloid-y tabloid.

Banned by the man who sued the NHS. Hmm

Not “banned”, “dropped”. But I take your point about the suing of the NHS because the Virgin Group didn’t win a contract.

It’s symbolic rather than anything else – apparently Virgin only sold 70 DMs a day across their services.

I know it would mean someone picking up the hateful thing, but have they reported it in their own paper?

It’s like the whole Trump debate though. Whilst I despise the man all he has done is scratch the surface to get an insight into the inner most thoughts of the American populous. I can’t help think that in a way he has done me a favour by revealing what the American persona really is. Is the DM pandering to an existing market or normalising an opinion? Probably a bit of both. I don’t think DM readers should be considered innocent or ideology victims. You have to be either a bit of racist already or remarkably stupid to read enough for the paper to get to work on you.

    “Read” is perhaps pushing it.

But along with the Express, they probably account for most Brexiteer news reading (Fake News, though probably accurate 😀 )

Banning the Express would have been better for train puns.

Someone did an analysis of the writing in the various DM editorials/opinion pieces. An article would start out with a reasonable proposition and over the course of the piece would become increasingly intolerant with no one individual change likely to be noticeable.

Very similar in style to that of a certain orator in the 1930s.

There’s a big difference between refusing to stock the Daily Heil (or the Scum in the case of many Merseyside newsagents) and actual censorship. No-one is preventing anyone from buying a copy of the Daily Heil and getting on a Virgin train with it.

I can agree with that but still not “great” journalism. If I had to read a red top though the Daily Record is the best of a bad bunch by a country mile.

I’m sure I saw a study somewhere about the political bias and accuracy of each newspaper. Nearly all were right wing apart from The Financial Times, The Mirror, and the Guardian which were all centre ground. Most people would put the Guardian down as left wing, just like to many JC is a communist.
