  • The commute to Winchester (from the North)- much traffic? Road to avoid?

    Hi all,

I’m starting a new Job at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital on Romsey Road in Winchester. I’ll be driving down from Newbury daily on the A34- Working hours are 9-5.
What’s the best route? Are there roads to avoid? Any times to avoid travelling?
    Parking isn’t an issue (luckily).
    Any help/tips would be appreciated!

A34 should be fine if there are no incidents (or too many lorries!)..

Winnall Roundabout (at the M3) and round the one-way system is where things tend to get snarled up so I’d recommend getting off the A34 before then and heading in on Andover Road North, Harestock Road, Stockbridge Road and Chilbolton Ave (the Hospital will be signposted on this route).

    Excellent, thanks frogstomp.
I’ll give that route a trial run in the morning.
