I saw the sign in the window today as I was riding past but a search for http://www.thebikeroom.com only brings up a shop in USA.
I’m not even sure it’s open yet.
    Any more info. anyone?
I need a new job and I liked working in a bike shop. I’d give them a ring if I could fine out what it’s all about.

There’s a Bike Rooms store at the Westfield Centre in Stratford, that big shopping centre next to the Olympic Park.

It’s super high end kit only – top end Pinarellos, electronic groupsets, Assos. Kind of like a Ferrari showroom for bikes. Cheapest bike in the Westfield Centre one was about £3500.

    Most expensive was about £16,000.

Thanks for the heads-up guys. Since Wiggo invented road cycling last month, I’ve been looking for a suitable entry level road steed and this place looks just the ticket. Just need to source some spangly road flats now and suitable compression Lycra.

I wonder what would Harry Hall would make of this.

    “Fight, Fight…”

    Or was that Harry Hill?

You’d have thought for such a swanky bikeshop they would have taken some decent pictures and made a decent website.

Might be worth going in my scruffy clothes to see what kind of reaction I get from the sales assistants 😈

I cycle up/down Deansgate as part of my commute, but haven’t spotted a new bike shop. Is it near Barton Arcade end or more towards Great Northern/Deansgate station?

EDIT: just looked on their website, it’s near The Great Northern. I think I’m too poor for that place anyway.

What! They have invented a bike you can use on the road? Interesting. Sounds like it might be a bit boring and cause confrontations with car drivers over who pays for the road though….

right opposite the great northern, in fact. next to richer sounds.
budget/discount hi-fi, and uber high-end bicycling. perfect neighbours.

Isn’t that where the church of Scientology ‘shop’ is as well ? I have visions of the scientologist shaking their heads at the clientele of bike room muttering ‘I think it’s a cult, someone told me they give 20% of their wages directly to the shop’

It looks like a lightly restocked Apple store. …. I’m sure the stuff is very nice in there but it looks a little soulless .

I like your thinking colint, it’ll be full of level 47 thetans checking it out as soon a it opens 😆

I give it 6 weeks but then I would have said the same about the scientologists!

I wonder how they will play the customer service card? My LBS (6 miles up the A56 from this shop), where I have spent a shed load over the last 15 years, is all “first name terms, tea mugs, radio playing in the background and a bit of banter”. Will this place be the same or will they go “uber cool”?

I know where I’d rather spend my money, but I may not be their target customer.

“6 miles up the A56 from this shop”

HtS – I’ve becoming increasingly frustrated with the poor customer service from my LBS, looking for one I can trust in north Manchester. Care to share the name etc?

    Cheers

i could walk to this new place in 2 mins from my work at lunchtime and not be able to afford anything at all in there, or ride back to ken foster’s in 15 mins when i finish work, and where i know they’re good lads and do a great job every time. yeah…

Can’t see it lasting but then again the uber specialist running shops in the Arndale and the Triangle seem to do well and they cater for a sport that requires some trainers, a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.

All is needs is one wendyballer in there a week and it’ll do fine.
Deansgate seems to be the Manchester street of choice for people to ponce around in Lamborghinis and Ferraris. A couple of them stopping and buying “Wiggo’s Tour de France replica bike” at £12,000 will probably see the shop through the year!

Isn’t there a branch of Evans pretty much across the road? I am aware the target markets will be rather different…

+1 for Cookson’s; I usually go to LL in Bury (who are also good, and nearer my house) but when I’ve had to get odds & ends in Cookson’s (most recently an emergency QR skewer purchase) thay’ve been great.

didn’t look like it was open this morning, but having said that it was about 7.50am when i rode past (although i’m sure the opening hours listed on the door say 8am to 6pm so i’d have expected to see some sign of life if it were indeed open for business).

and yeah, evans is just along the road too. i doubt they’ll be much competition for one another.

hello pennineroadie, might want to edit your profile to make clear you’re vested interest in the trade, not sure if it’s forum rules or just etiquette. Think you might get a bit of a hard time from some on here, but hey ho.

Its one of those shops where they take a look at you before they buzz you in.
    Good luck with that.

I was commenting on hora’s chances of getting in to such an establishment.
I’m unlikely to ever patronise the shop as it’s in Manchester, that’s near Liverpool isn’t it?

This place (based on the links) looks utterly hideous. What the hell is with these places? Its the antitheses of the cycling spirit.

The very embodiment of the slur “all the gear no idea”
