I’ve always been a user of than, as in ‘cheaper than CRC’ (for example). However I’ve noticed a lot of ‘thats’ creeping into text over a period of time.
Which is correct? And where have the ‘thats’ come from – predictive text, spellchecking, Americanisms?
Never come across that before, but I can’t see it being anything other than a mistake. Dyslexia / damn you, autocorrect / English as a second language / illiterate halfwit etc.
Saying “cheaper than” is better than saying “cheaper that”. Mainly by dint of it being correct.
It’s not just that it’s correct, it’s that the other is patent nonsense. You might as well use “sponge”; I bought some pedals from Wiggle the other day, they were cheaper sponge Chain Reaction.
I thought the question was about Tarquin enquiring whether one was portly or waif-like. Nothing about sponge although too much Victoria may make one That.
