    “Sex tape”…

    Despite having one that doesn’t work, and having an android tablet, I was sooo tempted to buy 6 or 7 ipads again.
    I mean, it was like one big advert for iPads, with a bit of semi naked Cam Diaz…

    And then the name dropping for the pron sites at the end…

    There- that’s my critique…

    The Equalizer (the new one) it’s like, nobody owns another type of phone other than a xperia.
    So much so that the storyline weaves in a shot of the phone every 5 minutes.

    I took the kids to see the Paddington film at the weekend and was quite shocked at the blatant product placement advert for Oreo cookies half way through. It was a scene that added nothing to the story and was clearly there just to sell biscuits.

    Enjoyed the film apart from that.

    I liked The Dark Knight Rises- lots of Dell product placement, for a product they’d already discontinued (the flip-top netbook that they launched just as netbooks died)

    Did you know Sony worked with RAND Corporation on ‘The Interview’?

    But The Interview is not an innocent movie. Originally, the movie didn’t feature the DPRK, and was meant to portray a fake dictator and country, as in Sasha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator.

    A leaked confidential email from the hack, however, revealed that Sony had been in contact with the US-funded RAND Corporation, a key think-tank of the US “national security” establishment. The movie was also, according to the leaked conversations, discussed with a “very senior [official] in [the] State.” Apparently, Bruce Bennett, a senior analyst at the RAND Corporation, reviewed the script as well. The Sony executives expressed anxiety over North Korea’s reaction to the movie’s depiction of the brutal assassination of Kim Jong Un, but Bennett insisted that the assassination scene be left in:

    Given all the heehaw when they pulled the film before Christmas, could it have been a carefully scripted PR stunt?

    I resent the turning of public and cultural space into commercial space. The US shocks me in that respect and it doesn’t have to be like that. The odd thing is, when your senses are immersed in ads eg Times Square or Piccadilly, I either pay absolutely no attention or feel revolted by the products being advertised in that way. I guess not everyone’s like that or else they wouldn’t bother.

    To be fair, if they had chosen Yodel as the delivery company Tom Hanks’ character would never have made it to the island and would have still been in the back of the plane or at the depot.

    Pretty sure the award for most blatant product placement goes to Will Smith in I, Robot.

    😆 You do realise that the commercial world pretty much rules over the creative industry. Advertising = $$$$ and those films cost more and more to make these days. Got to find that cash from somewhere.

    Castaway ushered in a whole new era. A step beyond product placement. As part of the deal, FedEx actually got to re-write parts of the script, to show their service in its best light.

    I’ve never watched it myself. I’d like to say it was as part of some principled stand against the commercialisation of blah, blah, blah…… but basically its because I can’t effing stand Tom Hanks, and the idea of a whole film with just him in it?…. I’d rather rather remove my own nads with a blunt, rusty hacksaw blade. Or worse… watch an Adam Sandler film

    Re Sex Tape – the thing that most surprised me was that its a Sony film which basically goes on to us the iPad as the most interesting character in the plot!
