I am in London on a training course next week. Anyone got any recommendations for clean basic hotels? Close to a few eatery’s (not posh nosh or west end places, maybe a bit of bohemian cafe culture) and within half an hours stroll to here.

Travelodge type places where I know what I will be getting, and not too expensive

Tower Hill/Aldgate and Shoreditch/Old street have Holiday Inns/Travelodge..

There’s a holiday inn in shoreditch / old st. That’s half hour walk from there plus options for bus / tube. Shoreditch and L St has all you need in respect of your requirements.

Hoxton and Brick Lane are all 10 mins walk and you have the small Belgian beer orientated Railway pub opposite.

Can’t recommend hotels but from where you are, you are ashort stroll to Hoxton/Shoreditch for food nightlife etc or Dalston which is a little further but also cool.

Dalston is cool if you are a cretinous hipster who likes to wear his sisters jeans, a bobble hat indoors and whisps of pre-pubescent fluff on their top lip.
The only reason to venture up to dalton is for some quality Turkish food.
Better off heading into Farringdon/soho where it will at least feel like you have visited a vibrant city not a grim urban outpost of despair that reminds you of the north without the chippy demeanour (albeit with slightly more up to date clothing)

Might be a bit late now as the nice ones will more than likely be booked – but AirBnB has some lovely places: https://www.airbnb.co.uk/

There’s also the Tune hotel near spitalfields – tiny rooms but cheap and well placed: http://www.tunehotels.com/our-hotels/liverpool-street-london

A good vibe, don’t be put off by ‘Methodist’ in the name, they have a bar 😉

Citizen M on Lavington Street in Southwark, near Borough Market, easy interesting 30 min walk to the training place. Hotel is brill and cheap for London.
