What to do of an evening in That London? Theatre suggestions? Good pubs? Nice restaurants?

    Pends what you like, innit?

Theatre; not much of a theatre goer myself. Tend to be dragged along by ladies, occaisionally. Read a few reviews, then find out what you can actually get tickets for.

Pubs; Blimey, where do I start? Really depends on which area you want to be in. Greenwich has some lovely pubs, for example, the Union being my fave. Locally brewed organic beer. Mm.. I’m also a fan of Sam Smiths’ pubs; there are loads in London. My fave is the Captain Kidd, in Wapping. A walk through Wapping, to Limehouse takes you past some really nice pubs, including the Narrow, a Gordon Ramsey gastro-pub. Poncy, but they do nice beer, and I have to say, the food is pretty good.

But there’s thousands of pubs. Some good grotty music pubs in Caymden Tahyn/Kentish Town. Bit too packed for my liking. Captain Flashfart will know some nice places round Pimlico/Victoria/Westminster way, I’m sure. Hammersmith has a couple of nice riverside pubs, too. You really are spoilt for choice!

Food? Are you serious? it’s That London’s famous London, for goodness sake! The possibilities are endless.

Sorry, I can’t really be helpful, on the food and drink front. It really depends what mood you’re in. For example, you could eat in a posh Mayfair/Piccadilly restaurant, or go for a superb kebab in Dalston. You could pick up a Latke and some Pickled Herring in Stamford Hill, or a Chicken Karahia in Whitechapel. Maybe something Carribean in Brixton? Or an Italian in Soho?

Too much choice, mate. You’re gonna have to narrow it down!

Juan, you once had a coffee at Waterloo station. You are hardly qualified to comment.

    Really,
Well I stayed with a girl 6 month in london during which we went to various place around town. Then I went during week end on regular basis to meet people, to vote or on conferences, and each time I tried to go and have lunch somewhere new.
Then my mu and my brother went to london on holiday and same, very expensive and fairly average. So I did get more than one coffee in waterloo once…

    …And I’ve lived here for 37 years.

Anyway, where’s Mike? Have you decided what you want to do, yet?

Apparently, if we go to a comedy club on one night and to see a musical the other, then we’ll have both been to something we like. I think this works on the same logic as “what’s hers is hers and what’s mine is ours” 😉

We’re staying at the Radisson Edwardian Grafton Hotel on Tottenham Court Road.

It’s near Regents Park, so a picnic might be nice for lunch on the Saturday. Does anywhere nearby sell ready-made picnics that are a bit posh?

Fortnum and Mason do very nice little picnic hampers. I’m sure Waitrose do, to. And M+S.

    LOL.

Service station Ginsters on the way down perhaps? They will keep for about a week if stored correctly in the inside pocket of your coat.

Going on the train. Got a really good deal on hotel+train, hence the posh hotel and not a Travel Lodge 🙂

    LOL!

I saw a young couple with a F+M picnic hamper, on the canal t’other day! A most incongruous setting, I thought, to sit and enjoy such fine fare.

    Bloody spensive, aren’t they? Christ…

Be sure to tell us if the streets are paved with gold or if the mayor carries his stuff in a red hanky tied to a stick.

The Friday is my birthday, and I will be taking my wife up the Oxo Tower. Unfortunately, on the Saturday night, we are going to see Hairspray…
