    People can’t be trusted. Either there needs to be far tighter controls on who is allowed to drive or it becomes mandatory to have a device fitted to the car that blocks phone signal while it’s moving.

    Go on then, hands up, who DIDN’T have a few close calls when they were young and had just passed their test? Yes the phone is the root of the distraction, yes it shouldn’t be allowed (that’s the USA where it is I think) but I had a couple of whopping moments in the first year, one caused by distraction, and one by, err, over exuberance 😳 I just happened to get away with both of them.

    I’m sure we all did PP, I rolled my first car outside a fire station. However, there are more drivers, first time cars have moved on a lot and these are additional distractions, not alternatives. Both the likelihood and the severity have increased.

    It can’t be brushed aside as youthful high jinx (especially as crapdangerous driving is ageless).
