So I was thinking of buying a new slightly bigger tent. I want something to sleep 2 but with a porch and preferably high enough to stand up in with a small amoutn of storage, dont' want anything crazy big. I see this offer in Go Outdoors, anyone got/had/used one of these?

good for the money but not very high rating on the waterproof scale only 1500 better one will be 3000 but you pays your money and all that.

We don't have a decathlon near us, or do they have online shops too? The reason I saw the Airedale one was as it was soooo cheap but I guess that's often the answer to my question. What do I want it for? well our tent is old and a small 3 man, we have started doing more camping again and wanted something bigger, that we could stand up in, so if weather is completely shizzle we could sit in a porch area, hence the Airedale. The 2 suggested so far don't looke high enough or big enough for that? Only 2 of us will used it otherwise not bothered.

Not sure if it's still available but the MSR Velo tent is designed especially for bikers. Room for 2 people plus 2 bikes in the porch!
Had mine for a few years now and i've never even contemplated replacing it.

I have read reviews on the tent I suggested that state that 4 people can sit in chairs in the tent. What they did was to unhook the sleeping compartment and move it back.
But as TJ says £60 is worth a punt on the one you are looking at. I would however look at the longevity and stability of something so cheap. In that price range you are going to have to make a compromise somewhere.

Thanks quite like the look of Hi Gear Atakama however not sure if it's too big for what we want sleeping 5!!! May just plump for Airedale as TJ says it's not much to spend to give it a go!! But any other suggestions are welcome.

Airedale is a crap design. As soon as you open that door, any rain that's falling will land in your inner tent area. Maybe you only camp in places it doesn't rain?

1500m hydrostatic head is not great for the outer material, but if it is only for occasional summer use then it will probably do the job.
We have a Vango Orchy 400 which has been great. Not sure on the price, maybe a little more money although this time of year everyone is having sales so it would be a great time to get a bargain.

Problem you've got is that most of the tents that are high enough to stand in will be 4 man or more.
I don't think that Hi Gear 5 man would be too large. Me & the OH have got a Vango Orchy 600. It is big, but is supposed to sleep 6 you could do that, but the living area would be tight once you put fold out chairs & a table in it.
4 people in it is nice & comfy without feeling cramped. If you will be sticking the tent in the car, I would go for a decent size one & have room to stretch out in!

though perhaps a little bit bigger than you are looking for? We've only used it for one night so far but found it really good, big but not stupidly so. Very quick to put up too.

MC, We got the Hi Gear Gobi - similar to the Atakama, but a bit more trick and more stable in wind. Bit of a faff to put up (if you have a look at the pole configuration compared to the simpler Atakama, you'll see why) - but gets easier each time. Superb value for money for us - we've been pleased with it so far - it has withstood a heavy night's rain, has lots of room in the porch - only slight problem is ants can get into the porch area quite easily. Excellent vfm though. HTH.

waaaaaaayy ot, but i've just got one of these
canvas, so weighs a ton, no porch and at the opposite end of the spectrum from cheap, but
- we camped at loch tay this weekend, when he normal rainfall for a month dropped in one night, and we were fine.
- up in 10-15 mins, single handed
- 2.5m at the crown, i'm 6'2" and can walk around in it
- on my model, the groundsheet is sewn in but can be unzipped and the walls rolled up
- how cool is that?

so, bollox to practicality and cost, tent envy is where it's at

I have a 5m version of the bell tent shown above (with a sewn in groundsheet) and the woodburning stove as well.
Its awesome, it really is, for 'car' camping its great, always warm during cold winter nights, loads of standing room. plenty of space for myself the missus and a large dog.
downside, being canvas its heavy (stove and flu weigh abit as well) and it takes a while to dry out (it must be stored bone dry)

Okay my criteria may have now changed slightly! How about a tent where I can stand up probably needs to sleep 2 but want space to sit in it etc so I imagein ti would need to be bigger. But lightweight? I don't want to spend hundreds of pounds, am I being unrealistic? The change in plan is that I now have a potential rough plan of flying to the States in 2013 and doing a 24 hour race over there, so would need to fly bikes!!!! Cheers guys.

Not hundreds of poundsThing is, to stand up in something, it's not likely to be a 2/3 man (2 or 3 man, not two thirds of a man).
There might be something out there, but I suspect you might have to do what I did and have a heavy big standy uppy for car camping and a lightweight two man for biking/hiking duties and live without the creature comforts. I'm not sure that without spending a fortune you'd get what you're looking for.

I have one of those soulpads above, ad it is excellent, really, but at 20+kg and several £000's fails to meet the criteria. I have a tent bought for hiking - lightweight, but forget standing up, it's more crawlspace.Anyway m_c, aren't you a cop? What about all that overtime you've got comign?

I've no idea how much this will go for but it's biggish, lightish, easy to put up and pretty cool. Only problem will be a bit of condensation as it hasn't got an inner.

Have one of these, which stood up to Glastonbury Vango EOS 350
You can't stand up in it but there is loads of room inside for two & loads of kit.Also have a Vango Icarus 500 loads of room, easy to put up.
Had a Decathlon own brand tent similar to the one in your original post, took it back after one camping trip

Someone had that decathlon tent rob posted at my last camp. It seemed pretty good for a quick, cheap family tent. It was actually quite taught (a problem with the larger pop-ups.
