Another one for the 'learning to enjoy the single life' brigade. Some bits are great - I can get up when I like, put stuff wherever I like (3 bikes currently in the dining room) go on holiday when I want ... Some parts are still pretty hard - I miss sharing meals, catching up with each others day, and really miss having someone you trust to give you a hug when you're down.
But the pluses of being single are increasing - and I'm getting into new things. I've made a pledge to not say no to anything and try new things at least once. Most have been great (alley cat races are fab!), some I wouldn't repeat, but have been 'interesting' to do once.
No intention of returning to the world of relationships in the foreseeable future!

As someone said above, the best bits are learning to like yourself - gets you ready for a proper relationship sometime in the future, if that's what you want - and bikes in the house of course.

It's dreadful. If you want to be single, I'm sure times are great, but if you don't, they're awful.
Had a split a couple of years back, luckily we managed to rescue it (and now do more things together - things are hugely better), but the few months of singleness were rubbish. Probably the most miserable I've ever been, and the first (and only) time I seriously considered not going on.
Sorry to hear of those with relationship difficulties, btw, I feel for you.

Tom. We'll have to get out local before you leave the protective bosom of leafy South Manchester. There is talk of a local/hangover Mersey Valley ride on Sunday at some point. Its my birthday bash and the Derby tomorrow. So Sundays hangovers are likely to be the mother of all....
The decision was taken out of my hands to be single so got to make own decisions for me now which in itself is an advantage. She tried to take kids with her but she didnt ask them first (14 and 17yrs old) and they wanted to stay put with me so having a much better relationship with my two daughters (who I do persuade to see their mum, i'm not bitter at all).
Dart board indoors. Room for pool table., More space for my clothes. No arguements. No explaining myself or asking for explanations. Riding when I want (although never a problem). Bikes now indoors understairs all warm and cosy. The dog's allowed in front room now. I'm much more house proud now. Whole bed to self. No make up in batroom sink. Looking at all the nice ladies without 'guilt'. Flirting. Dating. Better cook.
Was a dark place beginning of november last year.......got to laugh about that now as tables turned and loving life.
Reading all the above perhaps we weren't ever meant to be?
If its yuor decision to become single make sure you are 110% sure about splitting up.

binners, ive had the same happen recently after 11 years. you dont say if you have kids.thats the hard part for me seeing my kids on a drip feed. if you dont...be happy!! you can know rewrite your life to be better than before.

I've been single again for just over 5 months now, slowly starting to settle in to the single life again, the first couple of months were really hard on me, but thankfully I have some fantastic friends and family around me (with the exception of my dad who is an utterly useless arse at times).
It does get easier, I'm really happy now, and refer to my canceled wedding as 'the lucky escape'.
Maybe we should arrange a ride somewhere central (peaks??) for all the recently single STWers.

It'll be a bit of a shock to the system for a while, especially if you've been together a long time. There's loads of benefits as mentioned above. Lean on friends and ride lots. Be nice to yourself and look after yourself too.
