Looking for somewhere to take my better half on her 60th, and have come across the Aeolian Islands. They look fantastic, maybe bit of a drag to get there but from what I can see they are what she is looking for. Sea, Sun, Restaurants, interesting surroundings and they are Italian.

What is the reality? and what is the best way to get there? I should add that we aren’t looking for an ‘active’ holiday as she doesn’t bike/kayak etc

    Thanks

Nah, it’s what you dip your calamari in.

They seem to be a bit of an unknown

They’re pretty minor. In a natural, diatonic sort of way.

been a few times. stayed at the Rocce Azzure on Lipari.
Flew to Catania, coach to Milazzo via Messina (beautiful and
worth a visit too …) then Aliscaf service to the islands.

The “bus” from sicily out was an eye opener – hydrofoils in
rough water aren’t that smooth !!

Volcano and Stromboli are worth a visit as are some of the
smaller boat trips around the islands. Can’t comment on what
it’s like in “high” season as I’ve only ever been Oct/Nov time
    at it was wonderfully relaxing.

If it’s still there … The Chittara Bar on Salita S. Giuseppe
    is “rustically” quaint 🙂

    just remember to haggle …..
