I need a turbo for my daughter. for warm up before races and a bit of evening training.

My experience with cheap turbo trainers is that they’re horrible. Never had an issue with build quality, just really hated using them. Often the resistance doesn’t go high enough for them to be of much use for training.

However, if it’s mainly for warm-ups, then I’d think pretty much anything would be fine. As many people buy them and don’t use them, they pop up a lot 2nd hand very cheap (although postage can be hefty due to the weight) so worth a look on eBay or the classifieds.

I know you aren’t looking for an expensive one, but should some budget creep come into play (ie x10!) then I’m loving my Wahoo Kickr.

    Cheers, Rich

I recently got the Elite Volare Mag Force Elastogel from CRC which seems to work well (combined with a slick tyre)

However, this is my first turbo trainer son I have nothing to compare it to.

I have the remote version of this and it’s really good. The remote by no means essential and actually a bit of a pain sometimes, so I’d recommend this at just £5 over budget…

Look at decathlon, tacx sattori training black for £130, slightly over but you get some useful accessories you’ll likely buy at some point anyway…

thanks all, I picked up a cheap one SH just now locally for £15.
It will do for now, and if it gets reasonable use I’ll upgrade

I got a TACX from Decathlon a couple of years ago for about £100.

Don’t use it much, but it’s fine for when I can’t get out i.e. injury or when it’s icy, or I do occasionally do a pyramid session on it.

Would be perfect for warm ups.

Got a TACX Sattori for Christmas – came with a front wheel choc and a mat to go underneath.
    Works just fine.

I got one of the cheap stealth ones from planetx. Never owned one before but it has been fine for what I’ve used it for. Resistance isn’t ridiculous but when doing sprint intervals over 30 minutes the first ones are a touch easier thatn I’d like but I’m still knackered by thee end.

Given I’ll only use it November-March once or twice a week for an hour it doesn’t seem logical to spend a lot more. Now it has warmed up a bit I’m road riding in the dark as it is more enjoyable.

My Tacx Bluemotion was under £100 and I can’t fault it- feels a little bit bendy sometimes when fitting bikes but it works fine. That was in a sale, there’s a cheaper version though i think.

I’d try classifieds mind, there’s got to be a million turbo trainers stored away in garages and cupboards…

+1, got the 2600 blue motion and surprised how much it flexes/expands when you clamp the bike. Wouldn’t want to try an out the saddle effort, the Elite Volare sat next to it (60quid from halfords around Xmas) is much more stable.
